MUTIARA Burau Bay is located approximately
35 minutes away from the town of Kuah. Close to several places of
interest like Telaga Tujuh and Summer Palace Langkawi, guests can
explore some parts of Langkawi on foot. If they wish to travel further,
there are always taxis and the self-drive car rental service provided
by the resort. If you intend to see more of Langkawi’s beauty
and experience some of its mysticism, here are some suggestions:
Pulau Payar Marine Park
This beautiful marine sanctuary is a delight for both snorkellers and divers. For those not so inclined to get wet, it also has an amazing underwater observatory.
Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells)
Discover this beautiful series of cascades and pools deep within
the forested areas at the foothill to Mount Machincang. The walk
is steep and passes through mature rainforest, homes to many monkeys.
Continue deeper into the forest to swim in cool mountain pools.
Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake of the Pregnant Maiden)
A beautiful, large freshwater lake located near Kuah Town, it’s the site of a fascinating legend. It was said that a barren maiden drank from the lake and conceived soon after.
Langkawi Cable Car
Enjoy an exhilarating ride across the forest canopy to Mount Mat
Cincang summit at 713m. The 2 km journey is one of the world’s
steepest and the views towards southern Thailand are superb. There
are shops & restaurants available at the ground station.
Summer Palace Langkawi
Originally constructed as part of the set for the movie “Anna
and The King”’ it’s now one of Langkawi’s
biggest attractions. Built almost entirely of wood, the entire set
is uncannily real!
Ibrahim Hussein Museum and Cultural
Foundation
A non-profit, non-government organization, it is dedicated to the
promotion, advancement and development of arts and culture. The
home to some of Ibrahim Hussein’s works of beauty, the museum
itself is an architectural wonder.
Underwater World
The largest aquarium in Asia with more than 3,000 marine and freshwater
organism. See turtles, sharks and other marine life eye to eye from
the walk through tunnel. There are souvenir shops, restaurants and
duty free items.
Galeria Perdana
This impressive gallery houses various awards, souvenirs and gifts
given to the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Mahsuri’s Tomb –
Makam Mahsuri
A Shrine memory of Mahsuri, the legendary 19th century Langkawi
princess, is found here in a typical Malay village surrounded by
the rice fields. There are souvenir shops and foods stall nearby.
Pasar Malam (Night Market)
Held at different locations each day of the week, it has everything
from clothes and household items to local food of every kind. Bright
and colourful, it’s the perfect way to spend a balmy evening.
